Santiago.— A private of the Dominican Republic Army was wounded in one of his arms during the riots recorded amidst the 48-hour strike held by popular organizations in the Villa Bisonó (Navarrete) municipality, Santiago province.
The soldier was identified as Omar Peña Pérez, who was injured while demonstrations and protest actions were taking place. The member of the Army is receiving medical attention.

The strike, which began yesterday and extends until this Tuesday, has led to the militarization of various points in Navarrete. Around 70% of commercial activities remain paralyzed, with numerous establishments closed.
During the day, containers were also destroyed and actions affecting mobility were recorded, while authorities maintain constant monitoring of the area in case of possible new incidents.

Traffic remains considerably reduced, although some vehicles are circulating partially in an east-west direction, towards Santiago and the municipalities of the Northwest Line.
The organizers have called on the population to support the strike and maintain that the protest seeks to pressure the authorities to address a series of community demands.
Among the main demands are the solution to the drinking water problem, the completion of the relocation of the municipal landfill, and improvements to the electrical service, in addition to other needs that, according to the organizers, affect different communities in Navarrete.

As the stoppage continues, the authorities maintain a security deployment to preserve order and respond to any eventuality.
The injury suffered by private Omar Peña Pérez has become, so far, one of the main incidents recorded during this day of protest, which keeps the municipality partially paralyzed.
