Carolina and Yayo arrive at the environmental day of “Plastic for Schoolchildren”

Carolina Mejía and Yayo Sanz Lovatón lead a school day that combines recycling and education in the National District. Santo Domingo, RD.- The mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, and the general director of Customs, Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón, lead this Sunday the second edition of the program “Plastics for School Supplies”, in a day that combines environmental commitment with support for thousands of families in the National District. From the early hours of this Sunday, fathers, mothers, and guardians went to the Municipal Palace of the Heroes Center to exchange plastic bottles collected for backpacks with school supplies and tablets, in an activity that seeks to promote education and recycling among citizens.

During the development of the day, Carolina Mejía and Yayo Sanz toured the event facilities, interacted with attendees, and highlighted the value of citizen participation as a driving force for achieving cleaner cities and better prepared for the future. The mayor highlighted that this type of program allows linking environmental awareness with the well-being of families, especially during back-to-school season. For his part, Sanz Lovatón valued the initiative’s capacity to generate social impact through a model of institutional collaboration. In its first edition, “Plastics for School Supplies” managed to collect more than 7 million bottles. Together with programs like “Plastics for Toys”, the Mayor’s Office of the National District and the General Customs Directorate have removed nearly 18 million plastic bottles from the streets, consolidating these days as benchmarks of environmental action with concrete results.
