The congressman urged other municipal governments in the country to replicate the program
Santo Domingo.– The deputy for constituency number 2 of the National District, Manuel Núñez, praised this Saturday the third edition of “Plastics for School Supplies”, highlighting the initiative’s impact on both supporting students and protecting the environment.
Núñez considered that the day represents an incentive for children, youth, and adolescents, because it allows them to receive the necessary tools for the development of their academic activities.
“Each of the backpacks has notebooks, thermoses, and tablets, which gives our students the necessary tools so they can do a positive job in the classrooms,” the legislator expressed during the activity.

The deputy also highlighted the environmental results achieved through the “Plastics for School Supplies” and “Plastics for Toys” initiatives, promoted by the National District City Hall under the administration of Carolina Mejía.
According to data provided during the activity, through these initiatives, more than 37 million plastic bottles have been collected, preventing this waste from ending up in streets, rivers, and other spaces.

Núñez pointed out that the collection of plastics also contributes to reducing the accumulation of waste in the ravines, a problem that can aggravate flooding during episodes of heavy rain.
“It is an excellent initiative for the benefit of the environment. We must also include the ravines, because when we have flooding problems, they are often due to all those bottles that are thrown there,” he stated.
In that sense, the congressman urged other municipal governments in the country to replicate the program. “We hope that each of the mayor’s offices nationwide will emulate this initiative of our mayor of the National District,” he added.
The third edition of “Plastics for School Supplies” is taking place at the National District City Hall, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. To participate in the exchange, citizens must present their national ID card confirming their residence in the National District.
The event is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and private sector companies and institutions, with the aim of promoting recycling and, at the same time, supporting families with materials for the start of the school year.
The backpacks contain six notebooks, a pencil case with supplies, a box of colored pencils, a set of rulers, a thermos, and the electronic tablet. They will be distributed while supplies last.
