The seized illicit merchandise includes cigarettes and rum, among other products.
Elías Piña, D.R. – Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), attached to the 11th Infantry Battalion, seized a shipment of contraband goods that was being transported on three mules in a mountainous area of Elías Piña province.
The operation was carried out in the sector known as Loma del Ranchito, during an operation.
The animals were guided by people unknown at the moment who, according to reports, were coming from Haiti.
Upon noticing the presence of the military patrol, the individuals fled, leaving behind the mules along with the illicit merchandise they were transporting.
Among the seized items are 12,000 units of Capital brand cigarettes, six sacks of garlic weighing 22 pounds each, for a total of 132 pounds; and 1,754 bottles of rum of foreign origin.
The seized goods were transported and deposited under military custody at the facilities of the 11th Infantry Battalion, where they will be subjected to the corresponding procedures in accordance with the law.
