Mothers receive appliances and household goods

Elías Piña-DR. – Residents in communities in the south of the country were benefited during a social assistance day carried out by the General Directorate of Community Development (DGDC), in the Comendador municipality, of the Elías Piña province, in coordination with the Dominican Republic Army, the Mayor’s Office of the demarcation, the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) and the National Council for the Elderly (CONAPE), with the aim of providing immediate solutions and improving the quality of life of the citizenry.

The event, part of the DGDC’s Community Route, took place at the Combat Sports Pavilion of the UASD Experimental High School in the municipality, where free medical consultations were offered in various specialties, as well as the distribution of medications, food rations, gift baskets for pregnant women and new mothers, and other essential supplies for low-income families; barber services were also provided.

The operation, which also included a Mother’s Day celebration with the awarding of prizes, including household appliances and home goods, was supervised by the head of the General Directorate for Community Development, Dr. Modesto Guzmán, who, together with Colonel Domingo Cruz Sosa, commander of the 3rd Brigade of the Dominican Republic Army, based in San Juan de La Maguana; the provincial governor, Migdaly de los Santos; and the mayor of the Comendador municipality, Liriano Morillo, and his wife, Mary Leida García, highlighted the importance of these types of initiatives, which allow for directly addressing the needs of the population, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

“A very special greeting from President Luis Abinader, who motivates our presence here in the municipality of El Comendador. We have clear instructions from the president to be involved in social problems, to give, to resolve as if it were a mercy without looking at colors; a person who permanently works in favor of those most in need, and who has invested significant resources in improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable Dominicans. We are here with all our heart, with all our interest and spirit, because it fills us with satisfaction to be here,” said Modesto Guzmán.

The provincial governor, Migdaly de los Santos, was present at the event and thanked President Luis Abinader, the municipal mayor’s office, the Dominican Republic Army, all the staff of the General Directorate of Community Development, and each of the institutions involved for taking the initiative to bring immediate solutions to that locality.
