Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Construction Enterprises (Copymecon) positively assessed the changes made at the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVHED) and asked the new head of that institution to guarantee greater participation of MSMEs in construction sector projects.
The president of Copymecon, Eliseo Cristopher, considered the appointment of a young figure to head the ministry favorable, highlighting their political career and the results obtained in other responsibilities within the State.
“We see these changes as positive, possibly because they are appointing a young person, with a political background and who has had great success in the positions they have held in other State functions,” expressed Cristopher.

The business leader wished success to the newly appointed minister Jean Luis Rodríguez and expressed Copymecon’s willingness to collaborate with his administration on initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector.
However, Cristopher took the opportunity to draw attention to the limited participation that, in his view, micro, small, and medium-sized construction companies maintain, despite the recovery that the activity is beginning to experience.
He explained that the construction sector went through difficult situations that affected its growth and that, although it currently shows signs of recovery, that behavior has not yet translated into greater opportunities and inclusion for small businesses.
“Even with the growth, we are not seeing the participation and inclusion of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the construction sector,” he maintained.
In that sense, Copymecon asked the new minister of MIVED to take small businesses into consideration when developing and executing projects promoted by that institution. Cristopher reiterated that the confederation is available to the new authorities to work together and contribute to the development of the construction industry.
Jean Luis takes over MIVHED
The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, swore in Jean Luis Rodríguez this Monday as the new Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), appointed by President Luis Abinader through Decree no. 554-26.

Upon taking office, Rodríguez thanked President Luis Abinader for the trust placed in him and assured that he arrives at Mivhed with the determination to continue the progress achieved and contribute from the experience accumulated during his public administration.
“We come from a previous experience where we were able to deliver good results to the country and that is the commitment,” expressed Rodríguez, who affirmed that he will work “morning, noon, and night” to strengthen the work of the ministry and promote new initiatives.
Jean Luis Rodríguez arrives at Mivhed after serving, between 2020 and 2026, as executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), a period during which he was linked to the management and development of the national port infrastructure.
