DNCD thwarts shipment of cocaine hidden in metal pots

Santo Domingo. – The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), thwarted the shipment of cocaine hidden in metal pots, during a joint inspection operation with the Public Ministry and intelligence agencies. According to the data, the drug would be sent to Belgium through an international shipping company located in the National District. The discovery occurred when agents found cocaine hidden in the false bottom of four metal pots. Each contained a sheet of the substance, wrapped in transparent plastic sleeves and carefully camouflaged at the base of the containers. The total weight of the drug was estimated at 450 grams.

According to the manifest, the package was sent by a woman residing in Ensanche Ozama, in Santo Domingo Este, and was destined for an apartment in Zottegem, Belgium, where it would be received by a man yet to be identified.

Authorities are deepening investigations into this new trafficking attempt, while warning about the multiple ways criminal networks try to bypass airport controls by hiding cocaine in everyday objects. The Public Ministry and the DNCD reaffirmed their commitment to maintain and reinforce inspection operations to detect any form of international drug trafficking.
