A clinical trial with the preventive vaccine NOUS-209 has shown encouraging results by achieving an effective stimulation of the immune response in people with Lynch syndrome, a genetic condition that considerably increases the risk of developing different types of cancer, especially colon and endometrial cancer. According to the biotech company Nouscom, responsible for the development of the vaccine, NOUS-209 is an immunotherapy designed to activate the T cells of the immune system against neoantigens present in tumors and precancerous lesions associated with microsatellite instability, a characteristic of this hereditary disease. The study’s findings were published in the scientific journal Nature Medicine and correspond to a phase 1b/2 clinical trial, in which 45 people carrying Lynch syndrome participated. This genetic condition carries up to an 80% probability of developing colorectal cancer, in addition to increasing the risk of endometrial, ovarian, urothelial cancer and other tumors.
