Santo Domingo. – Before becoming a victim of a violent act, Israel Bocio Veloz was a 24-year-old young man who worked, studied, and made plans to build a better future with his family.
Israel lived in the Los Girasoles II sector of the National District and was the second of four siblings from a humble family. His routine was marked by hard work: he was studying Accounting, had completed the English Immersion program, and worked as a delivery driver for PedidosYa to cover part of his university expenses and contribute to his household’s needs.

During the university vacation period, he decided to make the most of his time by working as a delivery driver. For Israel, that job was not simply a way to generate income. It was also a tool to continue advancing toward a goal he had set for himself: finishing his degree and becoming a professional.
His sister, Maribel Monción Veloz, remembers him as a hardworking, dedicated young man with a desire to improve himself. As she explained, Israel had approximately 10 subjects left to complete his studies and hoped to return to the classroom to continue his education.
“I demand justice, that they find the criminals,” expressed Maribel, who lamented that her brother will no longer be able to fulfill his professional plans and asked the authorities to use all available evidence to identify and bring those responsible to justice.
Each workday represented for him one step closer to that goal. Between his studies and his deliveries, Israel tried to balance his responsibilities while helping his family.
But their plans were abruptly interrupted.
Israel was allegedly killed during an assault while working as a delivery driver on 7A Street, in Santo Domingo, National District, near Independencia Avenue. The incident has left his family plunged into grief and with numerous questions about the circumstances under which his death occurred.
For her sister, in addition to the pain of having lost a loved one, there is a need to know what happened and for those responsible to be identified.
Maribel asked the authorities to deepen the investigations and review the security cameras installed in the vicinity of the place where the incident occurred. According to her account, a collection of the recordings has been underway since Monday, but some people have allegedly refused to hand them over.
The family believes that those images could be decisive in reconstructing Israel’s final moments and providing elements that would allow for the identification of those who might be involved in his death.
Israel, a young man with projects
Those who knew Israel do not just remember the delivery worker who traveled the streets to earn a living. His family speaks of a young man who had personal and academic projects.
He was an Accounting student and had also prepared himself in the English language through the English Immersion program. His intention was to finish his studies and make his way professionally.
Working while studying was part of that effort. Israel sought to generate his own resources, cover his needs, and, at the same time, support his family financially.
At 24 years old, he still had a good part of his life ahead of him. He had about 10 subjects left to complete his degree and had the expectation of returning to university after the holidays.
Now, their relatives are demanding that their death not remain unsolved.
