Santo Domingo.– Lawyer Miguel Valerio stated that traditional political parties are concerned about the growing influence of businessman and media personality Santiago Matías, whom he described as a “new mass leader.”
The statements were made during his participation in the radio program Esperando el Gobierno, broadcast by ZZ Digital, where he maintained that the rise of alternative media has changed the country’s political and communicational landscape.
“Faced with the reality of the new mass leader, Santiago Matías, there are many people who are in these alternative media outlets. All the parties are scared,” expressed Valerio.
During the interview, the jurist also criticized the stance of some legislators during the discussion of the new Penal Code. In that sense, he questioned Senator Tavera, considering that he changed his position regarding issues he previously supported.

“He went back on his word,” he stated, referring to the legislator’s change of position.
Valerio described the approval of the new Penal Code as a “collective irresponsibility” and maintained that the legislation has deficiencies in addressing current criminal modalities.
As an example, he pointed out that the Penal Code does not adequately address scams related to cryptocurrencies.
“Tell me if there is cryptocurrency fraud here. There is none,” he stated.
The lawyer’s statements come amidst public debate over the new Penal Code and the growing prominence of digital platforms and independent communicators in Dominican public opinion.
