Mother demands clarification on her daughter’s death in San Pedro de Macorís

Estela Berroa, mother of a 24-year-old young woman who passed away following an alleged traffic accident, went to the facilities of De Último Minuto to report that, one month and 20 days after the incident, she still does not know who might have struck her daughter and subsequently fled the scene.

According to Berroa, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in San Pedro de Macorís. The young woman suffered serious injuries and passed away the following day. Her mother maintains that the person responsible fled the scene without providing assistance.

The complainant questioned the initial actions of the authorities, alleging that there was negligence in the investigative process. Likewise, she rejected a version that, according to her, was initially proposed by an agent linked to the investigation, according to which her daughter had suffered a fall while spending time with relatives.

Berroa explained that, given the lack of responses, she and one of her children began on their own to look for security camera recordings that could help clarify what happened.

Subsequently, he indicated that the Prosecutor’s Office requested images from nearby banking establishments and the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System. However, he assured that the recordings obtained so far have not allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrator.

The mother pointed out that some videos were sent to improve their quality, while others presented issues related to the recording dates and times.

Although he acknowledged that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has begun to carry out new proceedings, he expressed his concern about the lack of concrete results.

“I want to know what happened to my daughter,” stated Berroa, while requesting that the authorities of San Pedro de Macorís expedite the investigations and the analysis of the security cameras.

Finally, he reiterated his call to the relevant institutions to clarify the circumstances of his daughter’s death and determine any responsibilities that may exist.
