The CEO of OPRET, Ing. Rafael Santos Pérez, highlighted that the work is progressing on schedule, under the highest quality standards. “We are pleased to have completed the laying of the railway tracks, where the trains will travel. Now we have to finish the electrical part, which is at a very advanced stage, as well as the technical works, which cover the entire signaling system. With this, we move on to the final phase of this very significant work, in which President Abinader has put in an extraordinary effort,” the official highlighted. Engineer Georgi Petrov, director of the MSD System Consortium, comprised of the companies ASCH Infraestructuras and TRIA, explained that the execution of this phase has been carried out under strict international standards, with precision technology and certified materials that guarantee compliance with European regulations applied in high-demand urban railway systems. “The project contemplates the integration of engineering solutions such as the 54E1 rail, specialized fastening systems type S336, U69 counter-rails, track appliances for maneuvers, aluminothermic welding and automatic lubrication systems, as well as rigid and flexible catenary, all developed in accordance with demanding technical specifications,” Petrov detailed. The representative of this Spanish consortium highlighted that they have more than 90 years of experience, contributing to important works in Spain, Chile, Mexico, and Panama. Furthermore, the note highlights that, during this stage, more than 20 Dominican companies have participated, along with specialized firms from Spain, France, Germany, and Mexico, which reflects the international character of the project and the effective transfer of knowledge to national technical personnel. OPRET highlighted that the project has the participation of engineers and technicians who were part of the construction of Metro Line 1 and Line 2, which ensures valuable technical continuity and expert management of the construction processes. Representatives from the consortium, authorities from OPRET, and figures from professional guilds of the country participated in a technical tour of the work. With the railway lines already completed, Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro enters its final phase, approaching becoming a new modern, efficient, and safe transportation solution for Greater Santo Domingo, in compliance with the commitments made by President Luis Abinader in terms of urban mobility.About the project
The Santo Domingo Metro extension towards Los Alcarrizos, called Line 2C, is a project under the responsibility of the Office for Transportation Reorganization (OPRET) covering a section of 7.3 kilometers, as well as the construction of five stations that will be part of the integrated Metro-Cable Car transportation system of Santo Domingo. This project aims to decongest traffic from Los Alcarrizos to KM 9 (María Montez Station), through an adjacent marginal road that will accompany the viaduct, turning the section from Los Alcarrizos to KM 9 into an expressway that will allow citizens of the Cibao to quickly access the capital. This work will impact more than a million inhabitants. In addition, it includes the road improvement of the roads adjacent to the marginal to ensure a better vehicular flow in the area.
