Bonao, Monseñor Nouel. – The neighborhood associations of the Jesús de Nazaret and José Martí sectors held a peaceful protest this Monday at the intersection of the Gringo neighborhood golf course, with the purpose of drawing the attention of the Bonao authorities and demanding concrete responses to the main needs affecting both communities.
During the demonstration, community members denounced the deterioration of their streets, which they described as impassable, and therefore demanded the immediate paving of the roads, a demand that, as they stated, has gone unaddressed for more than five years.

Councilman Richard Ramírez, who actively participated in the protest, stated that residents have received unfulfilled promises for years and that the communities’ patience has reached its limit.

Ramírez also denounced the situation affecting the Yuna River, asserting that the indiscriminate extraction of materials has caused a serious environmental impact. He indicated that, according to reports from community members, more than 40 truckloads of materials are extracted at night without the authorities intervening so far.
Likewise, he reported that during this week a manifesto will be delivered to both the Provincial Government and the Bonao City Council, in which all the problems and demands of the sectors involved will be detailed.
Also present at the activity were the president of the Neighborhood Association, Eddy León, and community leader Beatriz Vallejo, who stated that they will continue the fight until they receive responses from the authorities.

“This is just the first day of protest. It is a warm-up for the activities we will be carrying out throughout the week,” stated Ramírez.
According to the community leader, the demonstrations will continue from Monday to Thursday with different protest actions, while on Friday they will conclude with a large caravan in which representatives from other neighborhoods and sectors of Bonao will join. During that route, they will deliver a manifesto to the different government institutions responsible for addressing their demands.
Among their main demands, the community members requested the presence of the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, so that she can learn firsthand about the situation these sectors are going through and contribute to finding solutions before the social conflict worsens.
