Villa González, Santiago.- The community of Banega, in the municipality of Villa González, remains dismayed following the death of a nine-year-old boy who suffered an electric shock after coming into contact with a zinc sheet energized by a high-voltage cable while flying a kite in that locality
According to accounts from family members and neighbors, the minor was playing when the kite got stuck near the power lines. Under circumstances that are being investigated, it made contact with a zinc sheet located on a wall, which was allegedly energized, receiving a shock that caused fatal injuries.
Although people who were at the scene tried to help him and provided first aid, the child was transported to receive medical attention, but he passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
This Thursday morning, family members, friends, and residents said goodbye to the minor during his funeral at the municipal cemetery of Villa González, amidst scenes of deep sorrow.

Rafaela Santos, a family friend, recounted that the boy was very beloved in the community and lamented the tragedy.
“He was flying a kite when he made contact with an electric wire. They tried to give him first aid, but it was already too late.
He was a very nice, polite boy and always shared with our children. It is a very painful loss,” he/she expressed through tears.

Another neighbor stated that the event has caused great dismay among the residents.
“It is something that is very sad. It was a terrible case. The current was what killed him when he grabbed onto a zinc sheet,” he stated.
The tragedy has generated concern among community members, who asked to review the conditions of the power lines in the area to prevent similar events from claiming innocent lives again.
