Passenger flow between Mexico and the Dominican Republic grew 423% since Arajet operations

Four years after beginning its operations in Mexico, Arajet continues to consolidate its presence in this important market, presenting a historic performance to date. This is demonstrated by the growth in the total number of passengers transported by air between both countries, which, according to data from the Dominican Civil Aviation Board (JAC), is projected to exceed 398,000 by the end of 2026.
This significant increase in exchange represents a growth of 423%, when taking as a benchmark the 76,049 passengers transported in 2022, the year in which the flag carrier began its operations in the North American country.
Likewise, air connectivity has expanded since the launch of its first route between Santo Domingo and Mexico City via the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in September 2022, as the airline has included destinations such as Cancun-Punta Cana and Mexico City-Punta Cana.
This increase in routes and frequencies has not only facilitated exchange between both nations, but has also promoted the ability of Mexicans to use the Dominican Republic as a connection point, thus consolidating Arajet’s vision of turning the Dominican Republic into the new hub of the continent.
“Mexico has been a strategic market for Arajet since the beginning of our operations. In these four years, we have seen how a greater connectivity offer can generate new demand and make it easier for more and more Mexicans to discover the Dominican Republic, while at the same time using our network to continue to other destinations in the Americas. The evolution of the market confirms the potential that exists to continue growing,” stated Manuel Luna, Chief Communication Officer & External Affairs at Arajet.
Arajet highlighted that, since the start of its operations in Mexico in 2022, Arajet has transported more than 580,000 passengers between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, excluding connections, consolidating an operation that has accompanied the growth in demand between both markets.
“Arajet’s growth also reflects the growth of the markets in which we operate. In Mexico, we have seen how a greater supply of connectivity can stimulate demand and open up new travel opportunities. Our goal is to continue expanding our presence and make it possible for more travelers to have access to the Dominican Republic and, from there, to other destinations in our network,” added Luna.
By the end of 2026, Arajet expects to reach more than 240,000 passengers, including connections, in Mexico with 18 weekly frequencies between NLU and CUN, equivalent to a 17% growth compared to 2025. Looking ahead to 2027, it contemplates 3 new weekly frequencies and a 17% increase in capacity, while Mexican travelers can currently access 30 destinations through its network connections.
“We started flying to Mexico four years ago with the vision of offering a new connectivity alternative, and today we see a much more dynamic market. The next stage will be to continue growing sustainably, increase our capacity, and offer passengers traveling to and from Mexico City and Cancun more options to reach the Dominican Republic and connect from there to other destinations. Mexico will continue to be an important piece of our expansion,” pointed out Luna.
