South Korean group BTS announced that it will not submit its music for consideration for the 2027 Grammy Awards, despite the Recording Academy introducing a new category for Best Asian Pop Music Performance.
In a statement shared on social media, the group said it had decided not to enter this year’s competition, writing, “We have decided not to submit our work to the Grammys this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, without divisions by region or language.”
BTS had been expected to compete with its album Arirang, released on March 20, which marked the group’s return after all seven members completed South Korea’s mandatory military service.
The group has received five Grammy nominations but has never won. The Recording Academy has not publicly responded to BTS’ decision. The submission deadline for the 2027 Grammy Awards is Aug. 21, while nominations are scheduled to be announced on Nov. 16.
