Dominican actress Massiel Taveras has made her Hollywood debut, sharing the screen with Academy Award winner Russell Crowe in the action thriller Bear Country.
After moving from the Dominican Republic to Los Angeles more than a decade ago, Taveras has broken into the English-language film industry with what is considered the most significant role of her career. She portrays María, a determined Latina who appears alongside Crowe.
Released under the title The Get Out, the film is based on Thomas Perry’s novel Strip. Directed by Derrick Borte and produced by Mark Fasano and Lee Broda, the thriller follows Crowe’s character, Manco, as he seeks a peaceful retirement while confronting the shadows of his past.
Filming took place in Queensland, Australia, including the Gold Coast region, where Taveras spent a month shooting her scenes.
