Abinader attends thanksgiving mass on his birthday, together with family and friends

Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader held a thanksgiving mass at the San Rafael chapel of the National Palace, surrounded by close family, friends, and officials, on the occasion of his birthday.

The president was accompanied by his mother Rosa Sula Corona, widow of Abinader, the first lady, Raquel Arbaje; his siblings José Rafael and Rita Sulina Abinader Corona, and his mother-in-law Margarita Soneh Curi.

In his words at the celebration, the president thanked God for his health and reaffirmed his commitment to continue working actively in favor of development, peace, and tolerance in the Dominican Republic.

The head of state said they always celebrate a mass in a small chapel, but he chose to do it this time in the National Palace to unify forces in the face of the challenges the country demands.

He recalled that neither in the Abinader family nor in the Crown is there a deep-rooted tradition of celebrating birthdays in a massive way, recalling with nostalgia his father and his aunts, who used to see each birth anniversary as “one year less and not one year more.”

Despite that familiar vision, the president chose to celebrate life in a devout manner and renew the spiritual strength and perseverance of the administration in the face of the country’s demands.

Abinader took the opportunity to tell those present that morning and evening prayer guides his daily decisions to maintain focus on state planning.

“The country expects a lot from us and we have to prepare ourselves to continue working for the benefit of the nation, understanding every situation and always with the due tolerance to maintain, above all, peace and development,” he expressed.

The Eucharistic celebration was also attended by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña; former President Hipólito Mejía, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch, and the President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos.

In the Eucharist, officiated by Monsignor Tomás Morel, coadjutor archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, prayers were raised for the health, well-being, and wisdom of the president in his capacity as head of the Dominican State and Government.

During the homily, the celebrant asked the president to continue sowing “because God has placed us in this world so that we may make the earth with our gifts and talents.”

He recalled that, as today’s reading reminds us, many seeds are lost, but others bear fruit and that is what the Lord wants.
