A vehicle plowed into a group of people near the train station in Caen, France, on Wednesday night, leaving at least one person dead and 10 injured, according to firefighters and police.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. following a fight near the station. According to a police source cited by France 24, the driver struck about 10 people before fleeing the scene.
The suspect, a 26-year-old man born in Russia, was later arrested in Ouistreham, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) away.
A preliminary report from firefighters said one person was killed, four were seriously injured and six sustained minor injuries.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and working to determine whether the crash was intentional. According to BFMTV, the incident may have been preceded by an argument at a bar, although authorities have not officially established a connection between the two events.
