San Juan.- The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a heat advisory for Puerto Rico this Saturday due to temperatures that could reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius) and for thunderstorms and dangerous marine currents.
“Advertencia de calor en efecto desde las 10:00 a.m. hasta las 9:00 p.m. para áreas costeras y urbanas de Puerto Rico. Asimismo recomendó ingerir suficiente agua aunque no se sienta sed, evitar actividades extenuantes durante las horas más calurosas, tomar descansos frecuentes en la sombra o en lugares con aire acondicionado, y usar ropa ligera, de colores claros y suelta”,
alertó la agencia de meteorología a través su página web.
The towns with the current warning are Santa Isabel, Las Piedras, Arecibo, Vega Baja, Fajardo, Florida, San Germán, Caguas, Arroyo, Toa Alta, Guaynabo, Lajas, Loíza, Ceiba, Bayamón, San Juan, Moca, Guayama, Juana Díaz, San Lorenzo, Canóvanas, Luquillo, Gurabo, Trujillo Alto, Humacao and Naguabo.
As well as Cayey, Cidra, Vega Alta, Añasco, Mayaguez, Rincón, Barceloneta, Cabo Rojo, Toa Baja, Guayanilla, Aguadilla, Dorado, Aguas Buenas, Salinas, Juncos, Ponce, Río Grande, Peñuelas, Hormigueros, Guánica, Maunabo, Cataño, Yabucoa, Comerío, Manatí, Isabela, Carolina, Quebradillas, Camuy, Yauco, Patillas, Hatillo and Aguada. For a total of 55 communities and towns.
The combination of high temperatures and high humidity combine to create a situation in which heatstroke is possible. Likewise, they indicated that there may be a day of localized flooding and thunderstorms, especially in the north of Puerto Rico.
It was also noted that there is a high risk of dangerous rip currents in northern Puerto Rico and on the municipality island of Culebra, located in the east of the archipelago.
