Hundreds without power in Queens, flights delayed in aftermath of NYC storm, floods

New York. A powerful storm swept across New York City on Saturday, triggering widespread flooding, stranding motorists and leaving hundreds of homes and businesses without electricity, particularly in the borough of Queens.
The storm hit the tri-state area after several days of intense heat, high humidity and smoke-filled skies. Floodwaters submerged sections of major roadways, including the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) and Queens Boulevard, trapping drivers and disrupting traffic.
Videos shared on social media showed FDNY firefighters rescuing stranded motorists, with some people forced to cling to the side of an overpass to escape rising floodwaters.
By Sunday morning, weather conditions had improved and air quality had cleared, but cleanup efforts continued. As of 9:20 a.m., nearly 450 Con Edison customers in Queens remained without electrical service as crews worked to restore power.
