Lula supporters take over Avenida Paulista to celebrate his reelection in Brazil

Hundreds of supporters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began gathering this Sunday on the iconic Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, to celebrate his victory in the second round of Brazil’s presidential elections, in which he defeated opposition senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
The mobilization began to intensify when Lula regained the lead during the vote count and progressively widened his advantage, sparking demonstrations of enthusiasm among his supporters, who gathered at one of the city’s main political rally spots.
In the vicinity of the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) and the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) building, participants gathered to follow the election results, while chants and fireworks were recorded to celebrate the president’s progress.
Celebrations increase after Lula’s victory is confirmed
The gathering gained greater intensity after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared the presidential election mathematically decided, confirming Lula’s reelection for a fourth term.
With 99.83% of the sections tallied, the president reached 51.76% of the valid votes, equivalent to 64,120,476 ballots, compared to the 48.24% obtained by Flávio Bolsonaro, with 59,759,548 votes.
The difference of more than 4.3 million votes put an end to a contest in which Bolsonaro had led part of the count before the Brazilian president regained the top position.
Security reinforced on Paulista Avenue
The presence of supporters from both candidates also prompted a security deployment in the area, where Military Police officers established separations between the groups to prevent clashes.
According to Brazilian media reports, some Flávio Bolsonaro supporters remained in nearby sectors as the count progressed, with verbal exchanges recorded without them escalating into more serious confrontations.

Avenida Paulista, the scene of numerous political demonstrations throughout Brazil’s recent history, thus became a meeting point once again during a decisive election day for the country.
The celebrations marked the conclusion of a runoff that will allow Lula to continue leading the Brazilian government during the 2027-2030 term.
