Marco Rubio is reportedly considering leaving the Trump administration, according to a British media outlet

United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is reportedly considering leaving President Donald Trump’s administration to focus on his political future, in light of the possibility of competing for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, according to a report by the British newspaper The Independent.
The outlet, which attributes the information to Republican sources and senior British officials, maintains that Rubio could attempt to distance himself from the controversies facing the U.S. government, particularly the political consequences of the war in Iran.
According to the publication, the official’s alleged interest in leaving his post would also be related to the electoral scenario following the recent legislative elections, the results of which reportedly caused concern within the Republican Party.
Rubio among the potential contenders for 2028
The British newspaper notes that Rubio is mentioned among the figures who could seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, a process in which the current U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, could also participate.
According to the cited sources, an eventual departure from the State Department would allow the official to distance themselves from the Trump administration’s decisions before the next electoral cycle.
The publication also suggests that between four and five senior government officials could leave their posts following the election results, although it does not publicly identify all those potentially involved.
White House rejects reports about his departure
Despite what was published by the British media, the White House and the State Department rejected the reports regarding a possible resignation by Rubio, labeling them as baseless speculation.
So far, the Secretary of State has not announced plans to leave his post nor has he confirmed a potential candidacy for the Presidency of the United States.
Therefore, information regarding his possible departure remains in the realm of journalistic reports attributed to publicly unidentified sources, without an official decision having been announced by the official.
