Mexico City.- The Government of Mexico has received 38,065 nationals deported since the new United States Government began on January 20, as part of the ‘Mexico embraces you’ program, said this Friday the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez.
“To date and since January 21st when this program was implemented, 38,065 Mexican people have arrived, but we also have agreements with the entities with the largest number of Mexicans living in the United States,” said the official during the presidential press conference.
Rodríguez recalled that the objective of this program is to receive and attend to the needs of Mexicans who are repatriated to the country, but also to “guarantee and respect the exercise of their human rights”.
The official assured that support has been offered through 34 federal government dependencies, which has included medical and psychological care; and 20,500 people have been affiliated with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in an extraordinary manner for humanitarian reasons and out of solidarity with the repatriated.
He also said that more than 93,000 people have received the ‘Tarjeta Bienestar Paisano’ with 2,000 pesos (about 102 dollars) for their travel expenses to their place of origin.
In the country, the mass deportations promised by Trump are worrying because Mexicans are about half of the eleven million undocumented immigrants in the United States and their remittances represent almost 4% of Mexico’s gross domestic product (GDP), which in 2024 received a record of almost 65 billion dollars.

Faced with pressure from the United States, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has defended that the encounters of irregular migrants at the United States border “are at their lowest level in recent history”.

In addition, Mexico deployed 10,000 members of its National Guard on the border with the United States to combat drug and migrant trafficking, following an agreement with Trump to pause tariffs, while on the southern border there are operations to secure undocumented people.
