Pedro Sánchez's playlist sparks criticism amidst migration crisis in Ceuta

They consider that the President of the Government should not have shared this type of content in the midst of a problem that warrants serious responses

Spain.- The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has shared on his social media his Spotify ‘playlist’ for this summer, amidst the migration crisis that the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla are suffering, generating hundreds of criticisms from those who consider this was not the right moment for the leader to share this type of content.

Sánchez shares his reading and music recommendations on his social media every week, and on this occasion he highlighted three: the first of them “El baifo” by Quevedo, the second “SS26” by Charli xcx, and “Tantas cosas” by Melani.

“This summer I have prepared a playlist for you with some of the songs I am listening to the most this year, it is quite eclectic, so I will highlight three that give you an idea of where I am coming from,” indicated Sánchez with a cheerful tone with which he wished “a happy summer” to his followers.

The video generated an avalanche of reactions on Instagram and other social networks, where users labeled the president as “retarded,” “ridiculous,” “shameless,” and “useless.” Others claimed that it is “a circus” which, in their view, shows that he “does not care about Spain at all.”

Sánchez states the situation is under control

Despite these opinions, Sánchez has requested this Saturday from Brussels an extraordinary meeting “urgently” of the European Union’s Interior Ministers to address the migration crisis in the Spanish city of Ceuta, which borders Morocco.

In a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the Head of Government of the Republic of Ireland, for currently holding the rotating presidency of the Council of Europe, Sánchez expresses his “deep concern” regarding the reaction of some European governments “following the incident that occurred at the European Union’s external border, in Ceuta”.

The president asserts that following the “irregular and unexpected” entry into Ceuta of some 50,000 migrants from Morocco, his Government has managed, in less than 48 hours, to “fully restore control of the border, provide extensive humanitarian aid, repatriate practically all the migrants who crossed irregularly, and prevent any unauthorized movement toward continental Europe.”
