Roberto Sánchez calls on Peruvians to vote responsibly in the electoral runoff

The Peruvian presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez urged citizens this Sunday to exercise their right to vote responsibly and to strengthen democracy through broad participation at the polls in the runoff election.

During statements offered from his native Chancay valley, in Huaral, Sánchez highlighted the symbolic significance of the election day, coinciding with the celebration of Flag Day and the religious solemnity of Corpus Christi.

“Today is Freedom Day, Democracy Day, and Resistance Day,” expressed the presidential candidate, while thanking national and international media for accompanying him on a date he described as special for his family and for the country.

The political leader spoke from the home where he grew up with his parents, accompanied by his wife and daughters, stating that he felt “happy and content” to share that moment with his loved ones and the press.

Sánchez also called on citizens from all regions of Peru, including the most remote communities in the country, to go to the polling stations and express their democratic will in a peaceful and responsible manner.

“We urge and call upon all brothers from the deepest villages, from the cities of the north, center, south, and east of the country, to exercise their democratic vocation with the greatest possible responsibility,” he stated.

The statements are made within the framework of the second round of the election day taking place this Sunday in Peru, where millions of citizens are called to participate in the process to elect their new authorities.

The candidate, who is running on behalf of the imprisoned Pedro Castillo, whom he has promised to release from his sentence for the failed 2022 coup d’état, explained that he chose to start the day in his hometown because that is where his humble origins lie, a place to which his parents emigrated from the Andean provinces of Ayacucho and Apurímac.

These statements were offered at the conclusion of the traditional election breakfast with which candidates usually begin voting days, before traveling to Lima to vote and await the results.
