Supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro gathered outside a courthouse in New York on Wednesday, holding signs calling for the release of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores ahead of the couple’s third court hearing.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. GMT. Maduro and Flores are facing allegations of involvement in narcoterrorism, charges they have denied before the court.
According to the account provided by their supporters, the couple was taken from their residence in Caracas by U.S. forces on January 3. U.S. authorities have not characterized the operation in those terms.
The case continues to draw international attention as legal proceedings move forward.
