Caracas.- The Government of Venezuela will send what it assured are “thousands” of letters of support to the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, who remain detained in the United States after being captured in Caracas a month ago, reported this Tuesday Camilla Fabri, the president of the Misión Vuelta a la Patria program.

“Letters addressed to our president Nicolás Maduro and to the first lady, Cilia Flores, to accompany them in these days of struggle, to remind them that they are not alone, that an entire people embraces them, supports them and awaits their return,” Fabri indicated. Although the official did not specify the quantity, the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión assured that this “first batch” is of “more than five thousand” letters. During the day on Tuesday, Chavismo called for a march in support of Maduro and Flores in Caracas, where they extended a giant photograph among the crowd with the image of the presidential couple and the phrase “Bring Them Back”. The Head of Government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández, assured that there are already “more than 300,000 letters” written by Venezuelans in support of Maduro and Flores, although he did not specify whether they will be sent to the United States. Maduro remains in a United States jail and is accused of four federal charges, including, narcoterrorism conspiracy, conspiracy to import cocaine, and collaborating with criminal organizations classified as terrorists by Washington. On January 5th, two days after Maduro’s capture, Delcy Rodríguez assumed the role of acting president of the country and has implemented a series of measures that, she assures, were the decision of the president.
