In January 2025, the United States secretly attempted to obtain information about military installations, ports, and air bases in Greenland, reported this Sunday Berlingske, citing documents from the Danish Ministry of Defense.
The documentation indicates that a U.S. military officer requested relevant information twice, with six days in between, from the Danish military command in Greenland, the Arctic Command. It is specified that the request was made informally and avoiding the usual channels for it.

According to the media, gathering knowledge about Greenland’s infrastructure, particularly military and critical infrastructure,
could serve Washington to
plan an attack or invasion of the island. The situation caused concern in Copenhagen and the Danish Ministry of Defense was immediately informed about it.
The newspaper points out that
it is not clear whether the United States received the desired data and, if so, what information specifically.
The US’s claims
Previously, the U.S. President, Donald Trump,
has stated that his country needs to acquire Greenland for issues related to
international security. Likewise, his Administration has made it clear that
does not rule out the use of military force for that purpose, if necessary.
In response, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland
sent this month contingents to Greenland to conduct military maneuvers, amid
the growing tensions with Washington. For his part, the US President
announced this January 17 the imposition of
a 10% tariff on all products exported to the US by those nations. The rate will come into effect on February 1 and will rise to 25% on June 1.
