Bogotá.- Colombian authorities offered this Sunday up to 800 million pesos (about 270,000 dollars) for information on alias David, a leader of the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group identified as responsible for the car bomb attack that left 11 people injured on Saturday in Cúcuta, a city on the border with Venezuela.

The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, stated that “the initial investigations by our Public Force point to alias David and alias Nay or Nike, members of the ELN narcoterrorist cartel, as the alleged individuals responsible for ordering these attacks against the population and the Public Force”.

“For information leading to their location and capture, we are offering a reward of up to 800 million pesos (about 270,000 dollars) for alias David and up to 150 million pesos for alias Nay or Nike (about 48,000 dollars),” added Sánchez Suárez on X.

The injured are “eight police officers and three civilians,” the Secretary of Citizen Security of Norte de Santander, George Quintero, told EFE regarding this attack carried out early Saturday morning against the police station, located in the Tasajero neighborhood, very close to homes and commercial premises that suffered material damage from the explosion.

The area where the attack took place is near the Cenabastos public market, a point where trucks loaded with produce from the countryside arrive at dawn, and for that reason, the vehicle transporting the explosives did not attract the attention of the authorities.

After this detonation, several explosive devices were thrown in the same sector and one of the people who was injured is a woman who was selling coffee at a street stand.

“The Public Force will not rest until they are found and captured so they can answer to justice. There will be no corner of the territory where they can hide. They will have fewer and fewer places to conceal themselves and more citizens willing to collaborate with the authorities,” added the minister.

For its part, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Colombia condemned on X the attack “which caused injuries to three civilians and 11 police officers, some of whom are in serious condition, and which left material damage to both civilians and the Police, in addition to generating fear and anguish among the population”.

“We reiterate to non-state armed groups that international humanitarian law and human rights standards prohibit these attacks,” added this organization.
