The federal criminal trial of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2027, under a proposed timeline filed by prosecutors in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The court has also scheduled a pretrial hearing for November 17 to consider the defense’s claim that Maduro is entitled to immunity.
According to the filing, prosecutors expect the discovery process to be completed before trial, although several pretrial stages remain, including defense motions and the review of classified evidence related to the case.
The proposal was submitted ahead of a court hearing to establish the schedule for the proceedings. Prosecutors expect to provide most of the classified material by November, while the defense plans to begin presenting its arguments in September and will have until early 2027 to file additional motions.
Maduro and Flores are charged with conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism and cocaine importation. Both are expected to appear at a third status hearing in New York as the case moves forward.
