President Donald Trump promised Wednesday to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in November, calling the proposed payment the “Trump dividend.”
Speaking at the Republican National Midterm Convention in Dallas, Trump urged supporters to “pretend” he was on the ballot, saying, “If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000.” He did not explain where the money would come from, although a nationwide payment of that size could exceed $1 trillion.
Vice President JD Vance defended the proposal, saying U.S. tariffs had generated significant revenue and arguing that Americans should share in the benefits of what he described as the country’s growing wealth.
Trump also defended the U.S. war with Iran, saying oil prices would fall once the conflict ends, and warned that the country could become “a communist country” if Democrats win. According to Decision Desk HQ, Democrats are projected to win the House 230-205 and the Senate 51-49 in November.
