President Donald Trump addressed speculation about a possible 2028 presidential campaign, saying he would like to run again but acknowledging that the law places strict limits on serving more than two terms.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump was asked about the possibility of seeking a third term. He responded that he would “love to run,” but repeatedly emphasized that “the law is very strict” on the matter.
Trump also noted that supporters have been encouraging him to run again, saying that people were chanting “2028” at an event he attended earlier in the day. However, he did not announce any plan to pursue a third term. Under the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, a person cannot be elected president more than twice.
The comments come as speculation over Trump’s political future continues, with attention already turning toward the 2028 presidential race. For now, Trump’s own remarks acknowledge the constitutional obstacle to seeking another elected term.
