Washington.- The
President of the United States,
Donald Trump, left this Friday morning for Anchorage, Alaska, where he will meet face to face with his Russian counterpart
Vladímir Putin to discuss a truce in Ukraine, a meeting to which he will arrive accompanied by a large part of the closest circle of his Cabinet.
“MUCH IS AT STAKE!!!”, insisted the US president on his
Truth Social shortly before departing from Washington to the northern state, scene of the first meeting between leaders of both countries since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in 2022.
Among the high-ranking officials accompanying Trump are Secretaries of State, Marco Rubio; of the Treasury, Scott Bessent; of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, as well as CIA Director John Ratcliffe and his Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles.
Also included in the official U.S. delegation are Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and the presidential special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in charge of negotiating with Putin in Moscow on behalf of Trump.
Trump and Putin will meet this afternoon at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in the city of Anchorage, in the U.S. territory of Alaska, which was part of Russia until 1867.

The military enclave is one of the most important posts for monitoring and countering Russia in the Arctic.
The U.S. president has lowered expectations for this first meeting between the two leaders since 2019, after acknowledging that achieving peace in Ukraine “was something more difficult than he thought”, after promising before arriving at the White House in January that he would achieve it in 24 hours.
Trump hopes to achieve, at least, a ceasefire that opens the door to a peace agreement involving the Ukrainian president,
Volodymyr Zelensky.
