WASHINGTON. — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered his country’s support to Colombia this Monday following the powerful earthquake of 7.4 magnitude that shook a large part of Colombian territory and caused serious damage in several cities in the west and center of the country.
Rubio stated on social media that the administration of President Donald Trump is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide assistance to the Colombian people and the government of President Abelardo de la Espriella in the face of the emergency.

The strong earthquake has so far left at least 20 people dead, in addition to injuries and significant damage to homes, buildings, and other infrastructure.
Emergency teams remain deployed in the affected areas, where they are carrying out search and rescue operations among the rubble, while authorities assess the extent of the damage and update the casualty toll.
Washington’s offer comes as Colombia faces the consequences of the earthquake and maintains its emergency response protocols active.
The United States noted that it remains attentive to the evolution of the situation and to the needs that may arise during rescue and recovery efforts.
