Caracas.- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado expressed her solidarity with Colombia following the strong 7.4 magnitude earthquake this Monday, which has left at least 20 people dead in Pereira and Manizales, two cities in the center of Colombian territory.
“We Venezuelans, who have suffered the devastating impact of earthquakes, accompany the affected families with all our hearts. We know firsthand how vital international solidarity is in the face of a tragedy of this magnitude,” Machado stressed on her X account in reference to the double earthquake that affected Venezuela last June.

Likewise, he sent his support to the president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, and his government team, and trusted in the “responsibility and diligence” of the country’s authorities to face this emergency.
The earthquake, which occurred at 07:34 local time (12:34 GMT), had its epicenter in the town of San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó, at a depth of 82 kilometers, indicated the Colombian Geological Service (SGC).
In Quibdó, the capital of Chocó and the town closest to the epicenter, authorities reported injured people and serious damage to buildings, but the earthquake was also felt strongly in several cities in the west and center of the country with structural damage in Pereira, Manizales, and Cali.
At least seven Colombian airports suffered damage from the earthquake, reported the Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil).
Authorities are continuing damage assessment efforts and providing assistance to those affected as the emergency toll continues to be tallied.
