The prosecution argued that Lindsay Clancy knew the difference between right and wrong when she killed her three children in their Massachusetts home in January 2023.
During closing arguments, prosecutor Shanan Buckingham questioned the defense’s claim that Clancy was suffering from severe mental illness, pointing to the fact that none of the doctors who treated her had observed signs of psychosis.
Clancy, 36, has not disputed that she killed her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Her defense argues that she should not be held legally responsible because she was experiencing postpartum psychosis, hallucinations and delusions.
Prosecutors, however, maintain that the killings were intentional and that Clancy was capable of understanding her actions. She faces three counts of first-degree murder and, if convicted, life in prison without parole.
The trial has lasted five weeks and has drawn significant public attention, including supporters of Clancy who have gathered outside the courthouse.
