Buxton and Burleson are recognized as MLB Players of the Week

NEW YORK. — Byron Buxton and Alec Burleson were honored this Monday as Players of the Week in Major League Baseball, following outstanding offensive performances that boosted their respective teams.

The Minnesota Twins outfielder had an explosive week, batting .345 (10 hits in 29 at-bats), with a double, five home runs, two stolen bases, six runs scored, and seven RBIs in seven games. For Buxton, this is the third such recognition of his career, solidifying his impact when he manages to stay healthy. The ranger joins historical figures from the franchise such as Joe Mauer, Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew and Johan Santana among Minnesota players with at least three weekly awards. For his part, Burleson was key in the good moment of the St. Louis Cardinals, who won six of seven games during the period. The left-handed hitter recorded a .407 average (11 hits in 27 at-bats), with three doubles, two home runs, eight runs scored and 11 RBIs. This is Burleson’s first Player of the Week award since his debut in the Major Leagues in 2022, and the first for a St. Louis player since Nolan Gorman won it in May 2023. In addition, Cardinals player Nathan Church also starred in the Play of the Week, after making a key catch that prevented a decisive home run against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The performances of Buxton and Burleson reflect their importance in the recent performance of their teams, in a season that continues to take shape in the Major Leagues.
