Eagles debut in the Round Robin with a win in extra innings over Giants

SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS.– An explosive five-run rally in the tenth inning allowed the Águilas Cibaeñas to win 10-6 against the Gigantes del Cibao this Saturday at the Julián Javier stadium, to get their first victory of the Round Robin and extend the difficult start of the francomacorisanos.

After tying the score at five runs after nine innings, the Aguilas offense responded forcefully in the extra inning, connecting four hits, including two doubles, in addition to drawing three walks, against four pitchers used by the Gigantes.

Giants’ Early Advantage

The home team took the lead from the first inning, when Johan Rojas reached base due to an error by the left fielder and scored on a double by Francisco Mejía to right field. Subsequently, Carlos Franco added another run with a run-scoring single to make the score 2-0. In the second inning, Gustavo Núñez received a walk and scored on a double by Ismael Munguía, extending the lead to 3-0.

Yellow Reaction

The Eagles responded in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Ezequiel Durán. After consecutive singles by Aderlín Rodríguez and Cristhian Adames, the Giants’ manager brought Ofreidy Gómez from the bullpen. Alberto Rodríguez drove in a run with a force out and Elih Marrero hit a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game 3-3, in a play that ended in a peculiar double play.

Trading blows

In the seventh episode, Leody Taveras connected a two-run single against Reymin Guduan, bringing Elih Marrero and Steward Berroa to the plate, to give the Águilas a 5-3 lead. However, the Giants managed to tie the score and force extra innings.

The decisive inning

With Ezequiel Durán as a ghost runner on second base in the tenth, Cristhian Adames hit a double to right field to break the 6-5 tie. Jerar Encarnación added another with a single, and after a stolen base by Fernando Peguero, Bladimir Restituyo drove in one more with a hit to the shortstop. Then, Elih Marrero hit a two-run double, and a walk with the bases loaded to Ezequiel Durán closed the five-run rally.

For the Eagles, Leody Taveras hit 4-1, with two RBIs; Ezequiel Durán, 4-2, with two runs scored and two RBIs; and Elih Marrero, 4-2, with two runs scored and two RBIs. For the Giants, Francisco Mejía went 2-4, with one run scored and two RBIs, while Johan Rojas scored two runs. With this result, the Eagles achieve their first victory in the Round Robin, while the Giants continue without knowing victory in the semifinal phase of the tournament.
