Gary Sánchez gets the ring that the “Baby Bombers” were missing

Dominican Gary Sánchez added a special chapter to his Major League career by becoming the only member of the famous New York Yankees “Baby Bombers” to possess a World Series championship ring.
Sánchez reached this achievement after the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in the 2026 World Series, winning the franchise’s first championship in its 58-year history.
“Excited. A dream come true,” expressed Sánchez during the celebrations at Tropicana Field. “I’ve wanted this since I was a child and thank God, we’ve won. Time to enjoy it now.”
The Dominican catcher was part of that young generation of Yankees that burst onto the Major League scene starting in 2016 and 2017. Along with Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird, and Miguel Andújar, among others, Sánchez was part of the group that was dubbed the “Baby Bombers” for their youth and the offensive power they displayed.
The generation brought the Yankees back to prominence in the American League. New York qualified for the playoffs in nine of the last 10 seasons, although they only reached the World Series in 2024, when they fell to the Dodgers in five games.
Now, Sánchez is the first of that group to celebrate a championship.
A career marked by power
Gary Sánchez left his mark from his very first steps in the Major Leagues. In 2016, he hit 11 home runs in just 23 games with the Yankees, setting a record for immediate impact.
A year later he hit 33 home runs and, after a 2018 season limited by injuries, he once again surpassed the 30-homer mark in 2019, when he hit 34.
Subsequently, his offensive production began to decline and some defensive difficulties behind the plate influenced his trajectory. The catcher ended up leaving New York and later wore the uniforms of the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles and, finally, Milwaukee Brewers.
In his 12 years in the Majors and with 201 career home runs, Sánchez can now add one of baseball’s most important accolades: a World Series championship ring.
