CLEVELAND – Dominican star third baseman José Ramírez continues to write his name among the greats in Major League history. This Monday, the Cleveland Guardians player reached a new personal and collective record by registering his seventh season with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, joining an exclusive group of legends.
Ramirez’s feat takes on even more value when considering his consistency and durability. He has played at least 152 games in each of the last four seasons and is on track to repeat in 2025, achieving the 20-20 in just 96 games. Of Cleveland’s 99 games this season, he has been absent in only three, all due to minor injuries that did not keep him off the field for more than a day. “It’s simply impressive,” noted leader Stephen Vogt. “The consistency, the physical commitment, the durability… José is the kind of player who makes loving this game easy.” In addition to Ramírez’s hit, Cleveland had two other home runs: a solo shot by Bo Naylor in the fifth inning and another by Kyle Manzardo in the sixth. Despite leaving 15 runners on base (their highest figure of the year) and batting just 3-for-20 with men in scoring position, the power was enough to secure the victory. With this result, the Guardians (49-50) have nine wins in their last 11 games, leaving behind a losing streak of 10 consecutive losses between June 26 and July 6.“He’s the best of all time for a reason,” teammate Steven Kwan commented. “He’s simply the caliber of player that he is.”
