In an anticipated duel between two Major League Baseball figures, Soto took advantage of a 91-mph fastball thrown by Kershaw and returned it at 102 mph, sending it 397 feet to center field at Dodgers Stadium. The hit brought the Mets closer on the scoreboard, reducing the home team’s lead to a single run.

This home run represents Soto’s third homer in his last seven games, an encouraging trend for the Queens team and its fans. Although the start of the season has been irregular for the Dominican, his power remains intact and the adjustments at the plate are beginning to be reflected in his production.

The most significant aspect of the hit is that it occurred against one of the most respected pitchers of his era. Before this encounter, Soto had barely connected a hit in ten at-bats against Kershaw in the regular season. Breaking that barrier against the left-hander could mark a turning point in morale for the outfielder and reinforce his confidence for the rest of the schedule.
