Leyba, Muñoz, and Bonifacio lead Licey’s triumph over Gigantes

SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS. Domingo Leyba hit the ball out of the park, while Samuel Muñoz and Emilio Bonifacio had notable performances to lead the offense of the Tigres del Licey who defeated the Gigantes del Cibao 6-3 in their second preseason game, held this Tuesday at the Julián Javier Stadium.

Leyba hit three unstoppable hits including his first home run, with three runs batted in, Muñoz hit two indisputable hits and produced a run, while Bonifacio got a run-producing single to lead the attack of the blue team. The right-handed pitcher Ovis Portes was the opener for the blue team, after pitching three scoreless innings. He was followed by relievers Pedro Báez, Abel Mercedes, Michael Arias, Ofreidy Gómez and Luis Beltrán. For the Giants, the left-handed pitcher Benony Robles was the opener who pitched for two scoreless innings. He was followed by relievers Reimyn Gudúan, Kelvin Bautista, Juan Arnaud, Carlo Reyes, Hansel Torres and Edgar García.

THE RACES

The Tigres took command of the game in the opening of the fourth act, scoring three runs and adding two more in the top of the fifth. The home team scored one in the bottom of the sixth inning and another in the conclusion of the seventh. The Licey added another in the top of the ninth and the home team added their third run in the bottom of the same. For the Tigers, Domingo Leyba hit a home run and two singles with three RBIs, Samuel Muñoz got two hits and one RBI, Emilio Bonifacio got a hit with one run batted in while Michael De La Cruz got a double. For the home team, Diego Hernández hit two singles, Edison Paulino hit a single producing one run. The Tigres will only have practice this Wednesday at the facilities of the International Prospect League, to receive the visit of the Gigantes del Cibao on Thursday the ninth in a game scheduled for 12:00 noon.
