Mets designate for assignment to Jose Siri; activate Tyrone Taylor from injured list

Chicago. – The New York Mets announced this Wednesday the designation for assignment of Dominican José Sirí, a move made to open up space on the roster after the activation of outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the injured list, prior to the game against the Cubs.

Sirí, 30, had arrived at the Mets during the winter thanks to a trade that sought to strengthen the team’s defense and athletic depth. However, injuries limited his contribution: he suffered a fracture in his left leg on April 12 and did not return to action until September 9, participating in only 16 games. In that period, the Mets acquired outfielder Cedric Mullins, whose condition as a left-handed hitter made him more valuable within the rotation. In his brief stint with the team, Sirí recorded an offensive line of .063/.167/.125, in addition to showing a defensive regression compared to previous campaigns. Since he did not have a guaranteed contract, the Mets will not assume salary commitments with him beyond this season. For his part, Taylor, 31, returns after overcoming an ailment that kept him out of action. Although he was batting for .218/.277/.315 in 109 games before the injury, his defensive solidity in center field was key to the decision to keep him on the roster. Taylor will remain under contractual control until after the 2026 campaign. Mullins, 30, has also had to overcome difficulties since his arrival at the Trade Deadline, but has shown signs of offensive recovery recently, with a .240/.296/.360 average in his last 10 games.
