MLB suspends Chris Devenski for three games and manager Don Kelly for one

Pittsburgh.— Major League Baseball announced this Tuesday the suspension of pitcher Chris Devenski for three games, in addition to a financial fine, after determining that he made an intentional pitch against batter Sal Stewart during Saturday’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds.

The incident occurred in the top of the seventh inning at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park, which led to the disciplinary action announced by the league through its senior vice president of on-field operations. If the sanction is not appealed, Devenski will begin to serve it this Tuesday, when the Pirates begin a series as visitors against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In case of appeal, the measure will be suspended until the process is concluded. As part of the decision, Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly was suspended for one game and fined for his responsibility for the pitcher’s actions. The manager will serve his suspension in tonight’s game in Arizona. Major League Baseball reiterated its policy of discipline for behaviors that put the integrity of players at risk, especially those considered intentional on the field.
