PORT ST. LUCIE, USA – Dominican infielder Ronny Mauricio was sent this Thursday to the Triple-A affiliate of Syracuse by the New York Mets, in one of the moves made by the organization ahead of the start of the 2026 Major League Baseball season.

Mauricio was part of a group of four players who failed to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Among the team’s decisions also included the departure of pitcher Joey Gerber, while pitchers Brandon Waddell and Mike Baumann were reassigned to the minor league camp.
The Quisqueyan player did not have many opportunities to stay on the big team, due to the depth of the Mets’ infield. The organization has already defined its structure in the infield, with Bo Bichette projected as shortstop for the start of the season in the temporary absence of the starter Francisco Lindor, who is inactive.
In addition, Dominican Vidal Bruján also remains on the roster, which further reduced Mauricio’s chances.
Looking to regain their level
Considered at the time one of the organization’s top prospects, Mauricio has seen his development stalled in recent years. The infielder missed the entire 2024 season after an injury to the ligaments in his right ankle suffered in the Dominican Republic, which affected his continuity on the field.
In his career in the Major Leagues, he has played 61 games with the Mets, recording a batting average of .226.
With this decision, Mauricio will start the campaign in Triple A with the aim of regaining his best form and knocking on the doors of the big team again during the season.
