Shohei Ohtani made history again in Major League Baseball by hitting his
50th home run of the 2025 season, becoming only the sixth player in history to achieve consecutive seasons with at least 50 home runs.

The feat occurred on Tuesday night at
Dodger Stadium, when Ohtani hit the ball out of the park to right field in the eighth inning against pitches from
David Robertson, although his hit could not prevent the defeat of the
Los Angeles Dodgers by 9-6 against the
Philadelphia Phillies.
With this achievement, Ohtani joins a select group that includes
Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, Ken Griffey Jr., Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodríguez, the only ones to have hit 50 or more home runs in consecutive seasons.
In addition to his offensive power, Ohtani shone from the mound by pitching
five no-hit innings, with five strikeouts and just one walk, leaving the game with a 4-0 lead. However, the bullpen couldn’t hold the difference.
Last year, the Japanese player hit
54 home runs, and with this year’s 50, he reinforces his place in history. According to ESPN Research data, Ohtani is also the
third player to achieve this in his first two seasons with the same team, along with Ruth (Yankees, 1920-21) and Rodriguez (Rangers, 2001-02).
Other historical data shows that Ruth achieved it on two occasions (1920-21 and 1927-28), McGwire in four consecutive seasons (1996-1999), Sosa in another four (1998-2001), Griffey Jr. in 1997-98 and Rodriguez in 2001-02.
Meanwhile, Aaron Judge, with 48 home runs this year with the Yankees, threatens to join this select list. Judge hit 62 in 2022, 37 in 2023, and 58 in 2024.
