UNITED STATES. – The Dominican outfielder for the Seattle Mariners,
Víctor Robles, was sanctioned this Tuesday with a suspension of
10 games by Major League Baseball after being involved in an incident during his rehabilitation assignment with the Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.

The incident occurred on Sunday, in the third inning, when Robles was hit by a pitch near the head that impacted his right shoulder. In the midst of frustration, the player threw his bat at pitcher Joey Estes and ran towards the mound, being quickly restrained by the umpire and his own teammates. After being ejected, Robles continued his loss of control and from the dugout threw sunflower seed packets onto the field.
Personal Context and Apologies
Robles, 28 years old and with nine seasons of experience in the Majors, offered apologies on his social media, explaining that the reaction was marked by a difficult emotional context. “Coming from a long rehabilitation and the recent death of my mother have been incredibly hard. It’s not an excuse, but it is a context. Receiving five hit-by-pitches in 15 at-bats increased the frustration, and I reacted in a way that I am not proud of,” the player expressed.
The gardener also recalled that he had already been hit by a pitch from Estes last season, when he belonged to the Oakland Athletics.
Medical and Competitive Situation
Robles has been on the injured list since April 7 after suffering a fracture in his left shoulder when colliding with the right field fence at Oracle Park in San Francisco. His suspension will begin to be served as soon as he is activated by the Mariners, who are fighting for the lead in the American League West against the Houston Astros and occupy one of the three wild card spots heading to the postseason.
In his two campaigns with Seattle, Robles has a .319 average, with 23 doubles, four home runs, 29 RBIs, and 33 stolen bases in 308 plate appearances.
