For this important duel, the South Korean team announced veteran pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu as the starter, who in his Major League career has already faced several Dominican players who are part of the powerful Dominican lineup.

Among Dominican hitters with the best numbers against Ryu, Juan Soto stands out, batting .429 against him, the product of three hits in eight at-bats, including a home run and two RBIs. For his part, Ketel Marte has a .250 average, with five hits, one RBI and one walk against the Asian pitcher. Veteran Carlos Santana records .333 average, while young Junior Caminero has hit a single in five at-bats, for an average of .250. Likewise, Manny Machado has one hit in six at-bats (.200) with a walk, while Amed Rosario has three hits in 20 at-bats, with a batting average of .150. In the case of Fernando Tatis Jr., the star outfielder has yet to get a hit against Ryu, with three official at-bats and one strikeout. The Dominican selection reaches this stage after a perfect 4-0 performance in Group D, where it surpassed Nicaragua, the Netherlands, Israel and Venezuela, thanks to an offense that scored 41 runs, one of the most productive in the tournament. For its part, South Korea advanced to the quarterfinals as the second place in Group C, after finishing with a record of 2-2, achieving its classification through the tiebreaker criterion by run differential. The winner of this matchup will advance to the semifinals of the tournament, in a clash that promises great intensity between two teams with a high level of competition in international baseball.
