Canadian diver Molly Carlson makes history with first-ever woman’s dive from an iceberg

Canadian high diver Molly Carlson made history off the coast of Newfoundland by becoming the first woman to dive from an iceberg into the Atlantic Ocean.

The 28-year-old athlete completed the feat after months of preparation and training, documented in the short film Red Bull Iceberg Dive, which follows her team’s efforts to find a suitable iceberg and safely carry out the jump.

The expedition involved scouting potential icebergs by helicopter before approaching them by boat. The team had to account for the unpredictable nature of the massive ice formations, which can shift, collapse or overturn.

Fellow Canadian Red Bull athlete Will Gadd joined Carlson on the climb and helped teach her how to scale the iceberg. Safety boats and equipment were on standby throughout the stunt.

Carlson, who has built a following of more than eight million across social media platforms, is an experienced diver whose previous feats include a dive from a 27-metre platform.

Her achievement marks a milestone in high diving, taking the sport to an unusual natural setting off Canada’s Atlantic coast.
